Doctor

My doctor’s experience was not as bad as I anticipated. I spent the first half of today in nauseous agony that is food poisoning. Then I had to wait a few hours at a local doctor’s surgery to have my stitches removed in extreme nausea. This medical centre was far removed from a Singaporean or Australian one. There was dirt and insects everywhere.I had to wait a few hours and was talking with Sobhanajoti and then suddenly I felt better! The female doctor was simply wonderful. I was surprised at her English fluency and she pulled my stitches out easily and painlessly. She sterilized the surgical tweezers but then dropped them in my hair which did concern me but I am just glad to have them out and over and done with, and that my nausea had subsided before she began pulling on them. I must watch out for infection now, there is a bit of swelling and a scab, I think because I have had it covered all the time as I am afraid it will get infected as it is so dirty here. Anyhow, now I will let it air a bit and fingers crossed I'll have a small scar for my efforts.

Cost of doctor today: $4. A drastic reduction from the $90 the doctor charged me on Monday to simply redress the wound. Its just amazing at how different the life is here from a commercialized society like Singapore. All you need to do is reduce your expectations a little, make friends with some insects, get food poisoning a few times and it's a wonderful life!
