Yesterday was my last day off before I began my new job. I
wanted to stay at the monastery and relax, but Khemika wanted to go downtown,
so we did. Here are some photos from the day. It was a big holiday in Yangon (the beginning of what is not so aptly called the monk's lent) so
it was very crowded. We went to a national park beside the Swedagon and then
again, we visited the Swedagon, my most favourite place in Myanmar. I went to
my pagoda (according to Burmese astrology it's the day and time you are born: for me Wednesday
morning) and donated some white roses which Sandima purchased for me and put water on the
elephant and Buddha and said a little prayer (see photos below). At the end of the day we stopped at a
coffee shop near to the monastery and then had to walk home in the pouring rain
in the dark, trying to dodge the puddles and mud as we had no torches. It was fun.
Khemika sang songs as we walked back and claimed that it was my fault we were
walking in the rain, as he had suggested to leave earlier but I had not
finished my coffee. He was joking around, screaming that this was his only robe
and that he now had to sleep in a wet robe. He is hilarious sometimes.
