Ven. Khemika

This is Ven. Khemika. He is the one who I first met at the Swedagon Paya and who invited me to the monastery in June. if it wasn't for him I would not be here. His English is very good which is why he spoke with me the most. We get along really well. He has a quirky, fun-loving personality and he is always smiling, happy and joking around. Other teachers can relate to this: sometimes you meet a student and you can see there is something special about them. You know that they will go places. It was his 20th birthday today. I didn't have a present to give him so I gave him one of my blank notebooks with a photograph of us and some other monks at the Swedagon Paya when we first met. That day, he asked me to teach him an idiom or saying in English that he could remember and use. I couldn't think of one then. So I wrote a special message inside his book which said that I can see that he has great potential and I wrote: "The world's your oyster". I had to explain the meaning. I hope he liked it.
